Finest Finishes!
Attention to details, proper preparation and expert applications, all contribute to the Finest Finishes.
Many painters rely on color changes as the main feature of a project. Hand-sanding, joint compound repairs, puttying and caulking, are often overlooked, resulting in a lack of refinement to the overall look and feel of a room. Thorough preparation makes a huge difference to the final product. I always say, "a conscious attention to details produces a sub conscious (positive) result."
I paint houses one inch at a time. Walls are hand-sanded to reduce ugly, heavy roller naps. Hand sanding also allows me to see areas that can benefit from various types of repairs. I thoroughly sand all wood trim to reduce ridges and over brushed surfaces. All un-sunk finish-nails are counter-sunk and properly puttied. Caulk is judiciously used to fill gaps on trim and between the trim and drywall surfaces. The preparation process is finally complete with the removal of all dust prior to and in-between applications.
Other overlooked details;
- Appropriate primers.... Very important! Water damage, mildew, chalky substrates, all need appropriate primers. Some of the latex "Stain Sealers" do not seal stains. In some cases, oil based or alcohol based sealers are needed to do the trick! Slick surfaces.... You'd better use the correct Bonding primer. Wood surfaces previously painted with oil based paints not only need to be sanded but a good bonding primer is required if latex enamels are requested as the finish of choice. Painting latex enamels over oil based paints is a fatal error often done by home owners and painters alike!
- Protect the paint! Yes, a painter can do the best preparation only to overlook the fact that paint can become contaminated by debris from a variety of sources including the painter's own hands! Contaminated paint will add bumps and nubs right back onto the prepared walls and wood surfaces all over again!
In summary, conscious attention to details is what produces a project that surpasses a mere change of color.
Oil Based Enamels
Hand brushed oil based paints are a lost art. The look and feel of oil-base enameled surfaces cannot be replicated with latex enamels. I offer unparalleled finishes with the use of genuine oil-based enamels on any wood surfaces including kitchen cabinets.
